Cathinone is a naturally occurring beta-ketone amphetamine analogue found in the leaves of the Catha edulis plant. Synthetic cathinones ("Bath Salts") are derivatives of this compound that have emerged as drugs of abuse. The effect is similar to amphetamines and MDMA.
