A pedometer based workplace physical activity intervention in which workers were encouraged to walk 10,000 steps a day resulted in a significant decrease in waist circumference after 6 months (-3.0 cm).

Comment: Waist circumference is a powerful predictor of health outcomes, and for most people, a decrease in waist circumference is desirable.
