Medical Pearls from the Internet Medical Association


This study looked at women with breast cancer (n=20 046), colorectal cancer (n=11 719), and melanoma (n=6430). It found that cancer-specific mortality was reduced by about 5% with a greater adherence to lipid lowering medications.

Comment: Lipophilic statins such as atorvastatin, simvastatin, and lovastatin (possibly also red yeast rice) were found to be associated with greater reductions in cancer‐specific mortality than the hydrophilic statins such as pravastatin, and rosuvastatin.
