In painful diabetic neuropathy, duloxetine and amitriptyline have similar efficacy. Good, moderate, and mild pain relief was achieved in about 55%, 20%, and 10% of patients, respectively. Dry mouth was significantly more common in the amitriptyline group. Patients preferred duloxetine over amitriptyline, however, this difference was not statistically significant.
