Medical Pearls from the Internet Medical Association

For Korean postmenopausal women and men over 50, the Korean Society for Bone and Mineral Research recommends a calcium intake of 800 to 1000 mg a day, and a vitamin D intake of more than 800 IU a day; both ideally from food but if dietary intake is inadequate, then supplement. They also state that a serum 25-(OH)D level greater than 30 ng/mL is probably helpful for management of osteoporosis and prevention of fractures.

Comment: When choosing a calcium supplement, in general it is recommended to chose one that includes vitamin D.
