Antibiotic therapy for acute uncomplicated appendicitis worked for about 60% of the patients with quality of life at 7 years similar to those undergoing appendectomy. Of those receiving antibiotics, about 25% eventually underwent appendectomy within 1 year and 40% within 3 years. QOL was slightly better in the appendectomy group, primarily due to lower scores by those patients initially treated with antibiotics but then ultimately required surgery.
