In this study of Danish people, low plasma vitamin D levels were associated with a 25% to 50% increased risk of ischemic heart disease and early death. This was when the lowest 25% of the population was compared with the highest 25%. TAKE-HOME: this study suggests that having a "normal" plasma vitamin D level is not sufficient; it is better to have a level falling in the top 25%.
