This study found that the most commonly used anti-diabetic oral medication was metformin, followed by repaglinide (Prandin), DPP4 inhibitors (e.g. sitagliptin / Januvia), and sulphonylureas (most commonly glimepiride). Measuring renal function in diabetics is helpful in modifying medications, since at low GFRs it may be beneficial to change from metformin to another agent.
