In early bereavement, cardiovascular risk is increased. In this study, metoprolol at 25 mg a day and aspirin at 100 mg a day was found to reduce physiological and psychological surrogate measures of cardiovascular risk.

Comment: This study found that low dose metoprolol plus aspirin decreased cardiovascular risk factors, but was not designed to determine if there was an actual change in adverse cardiovascular events.
