FDG PET/CT is helpful in establishing the diagnosis in patients with fever of unknown origin. F-FDG PET/CT was 100% true negative only in patients with CRP levels less than 5 mg/l. A positive CRP level is more likely to indicate a true positive PET/CT scan than a positive ESR level.
