Sleep duration of less than 6 hours was associated with an increased risk of stroke among normal weight adults at low risk for obstructive sleep apnea. The authors speculate that short sleep duration is a precursor to other risk factors, and when these risk factors develop, they become stronger risk factors than sleep duration alone.
