Compared to usual care, this meta-analysis found that high intensity interval training improved cardiorespiratory fitness in cancer patients and cancer survivor patients.

Comment: The unanswered question from this study is whether or not high intensity interval training is more effective than long duration low intensity training. There is some evidence from analyzing pedometer data that total steps per day is the critical factor, not intensity. This suggests that one mile walked is just as helpful as one mile of running alternating with walking (interval training).
