During an average 3.5 years of follow-up, beta blockers did not decrease the rate of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, or stroke in persons with a previous infarction, with known coronary artery disease, or with coronary artery disease risk factors alone. In those with risk factors alone, beta blockers may increase risk.
