This study found that students performed better on tests if they studied the subject while listening to distinctive classical music (Chopin, Beethoven, and Vivaldi), then listened to that same music during slow wave asleep. The authors conclude that "students can leverage instrumental music-which they already commonly pair with studying-to help prepare for academic tests, an approach that may promote course success and persistence."

Comment: The technique studies is "targeted memory reactivation." Unclear whether or not this would work for other music genres such as smooth jazz, but likely it would. The difference in memory recall was significant.
