Bismuth subsalicylate can be useful in the prevention and treatment of traveler's diarrhea. Antibiotic prophylaxis is not routinely recommended. Treatment is typically with a fluoroquinolone or azithromycin. One recommended fluid replacement is: 1L of water with 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 4 tbsp sugar.
