Aspirin appears to reduce the risk of cancer with distant metastasis by about 30%. There is some evidence that aspirin may decrease the risk of metastases in patients with adenocarcinoma. Aspirin may be particularly helpful in smokers. A low-dose, slow-release formulation of aspirin designed to inhibit platelets but to have little systemic bioavailability was found to be as effective as higher doses.
