This small Japanese study of 12 males looked at the ingestion of oolong tea vs caffeine alone vs placebo over a 2 week period. It found that caffeine and oolong tea did not increase energy expenditure but did increase fat oxidation. Oolong tea contains less caffeine that was given to the caffeine group (100 mg a day), but caused a similar increase in fat oxidation.

Comment: The effects found in this study were small, but over a long period of time, oolong tea consumption (or possibly as an alternative, green tea) may have a beneficial effect on body composition.
