This study of 30 female smokers with moderate-severe depressive symptoms found that supervised vigorous intensity exercise improved short-term smoking cessation.

Comment: This study found that cessation was improved at 3 months, but not at 6 months after beginning the exercise program. The authors hypothesize that non-adherence to the exercise program after 3 months possibly resulted in decreased benefits, and decreased smoking cessation.
